How much does a standard gate cost?
There is no such thing as a standard size gate! Unlike internal doors, which are generally uniform, gates vary widely from one house to the next. The price depends on the size. Send us an approximate width for the space where you would like the gate, and we will send you a quote.
How Long does it take to get a gate installed?
Lead time varies throughout the year, but is generally around 2-4 weeks. On the fitting day itself, installation takes approximately 3 hours for a single gate.
Do I need to pay a deposit? How do i pay?
We don't require a deposit. Payment is taken in full on completion of the job. We can accept cash or card. Please note, we do not accept cheque.
what about painting the gate?
Gates can be painted a minimum of 4 weeks after installation, but we don't provide a painting service. Painting your gate is not a necessity, but if you wish to do so— we advise using a water based paint, stain, or varnish. Spring and Summer are the best times to paint your gate. The weather needs to be dry, and so does the gate.
do you take the old gate away?
We will take down the old gate free of charge, and we also offer a service to cut up your old gate and place it in small manageable rubble sacks for a fee. However, we do not hold a waste disposal licence so cannot dispose of your old gate.
IF I BUY MY OWN LOCK, WILL YOU FIT IT?
We only fit locks that we supply. This is because we cannot guarantee the quality of other locks and also because fitting different types of locks takes longer than necessary when fitting a new lock for the first time. It would not be viable for our small business. You would need to fit a third party lock yourself after the gate is installed.
Do YOU MAKE DRIVEWAY GATES?
It depends on the size of the gates. Please contact us with your approx measurements. Please note we do not make gates that are suitable for automation.
How do I care for my gate after installation?
Your gate when installed is already pressure treated, so it is made to be outdoors. The only caveat to this is that there are exposed edges where the timber has been cut to make your gate to size. It is worth treating these edges with wood preservative within the first year after installation. If you plan to paint or varnish your gate, you can just make sure to give the edges a good coat to protect them. But wait at least 3-4 weeks before painting, use a water-based product, and ensure the weather is dry.
How long will my gate last?
We cannot give a guarantee on the lifespan of the gate. We can promise that the craftsmanship when making the gate will be to the highest standard. However every gate is different in terms of location and exposure to moisture and sunlight. In general, pressure treated timber can have a lifespan anywhere from 10-20 years.
Do you make hardwood or steel gates?
We don't make gates from steel, or steel-framed gates. Our gates are made from pressure treated softwood.
Can I have a lock with a key, or a code lock?
Yes! We supply and fit a range of key locks, and suffolk latches. However we no longer fit code locks–in our experience they are not suitable for gates. Full details will be sent in an info pack along with your quote after you contact us.
